The Journey Behind Slow Dine
Hi, I’m Catherine, the designer and founder of Slow Dine. The past 18 months have been an incredible adventure, bringing this vision to life—from the design phase to our stunning photoshoots. I’ll admit, I imagined organizing a photoshoot would be a breeze. But coordinating models, furniture, weather, and food styling? It’s been quite the learning curve! I couldn’t have done it without the huge support of my mum and dad, who helped organize furniture and jumped in to assist wherever needed. My creative friends and family were truly amazing, and together, we made it happen.
One of the most special parts of the process was working with my sister and closest friends. We had such a blast, creating an atmosphere that felt intimate and fun—exactly the kind of vibe I want Slow Dine to inspire at every table. There was laughter, a few glasses of vino, and some delicious Italian-inspired dishes that added to the warmth of the day.
A special mention goes to Vetro Tauranga, where we sourced much of the Mediterranean-inspired food for the platters. The quality was unmatched and brought that rich, authentic feel to the shoot. We also picked up some lovely breads from Bread-Head Tauranga, which we had fun using as props—and devoured them all once the shoot was over!
Of course, the linen tablecloths took center stage, with their playful yet elegant designs adding the perfect touch to the setting. We styled everything to capture that Mediterranean-inspired charm—warm, inviting, and effortlessly stylish.
A big thank you to Malka Restaurant in Tauranga, where we shot our first location. It’s one of my favorite Middle Eastern spots, and they were incredibly supportive throughout the process. If you haven’t tried their food, you’re missing out on flavors that span the Mediterranean and the Middle East.
Our second shoot was held outdoors at a family friend’s home. Thank you to Lisa & Mark for being so accommodating and letting us use their beautiful space—it made everything run smoothly and added the perfect backdrop for the shoot.

As I look back on the past few months, I’m so grateful for the incredible people who helped bring this vision to life. It’s been a wonderful experience creating something that reflects not just my love for design, but for food, storytelling, and bringing people together. Slow Dine is about so much more than just tablecloths; it's about embracing the joy of dining—taking the time to truly enjoy the company of those you love, with meals that aren’t rushed but savored.
So, here's to slowing down, gathering around the table, and creating moments that matter with those who matter most. Welcome to Slow Dine.
